Residents of Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State have been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of a newly married woman, Mrs. Esther Adaigbe, who was allegedly attacked by suspected assailants while on her way to attend an early morning Mass.

The tragic incident, which has sent shockwaves across the community, claimed the life of Esther barely one month after she exchanged marital vows with her husband, who is reportedly based abroad.

Initial reports had suggested that the deceased was attacked on Monday, July 13, 2026, by hoodlums who attempted to snatch her newly acquired ladies’ motorcycle or mobile phones. However, that speculation was later dismissed after members of her immediate family, accompanied by police officers, forced entry into her residence and discovered that both her motorcycle and mobile phones were still inside the house.

Preliminary findings indicate that Esther had left her home on foot for church when she was allegedly accosted by unknown assailants. Her lifeless body was later found abandoned along the Agbor section of the Benin-Asaba Expressway.

Sources disclosed that the attackers inflicted a fatal stab wound on the left side of her neck, close to the ear—a grievous injury believed to have left her with little or no chance of survival.

The brutal killing has sparked grief and outrage among residents, with many describing the late Esther as a peaceful, hardworking, and exceptionally friendly woman.

“She was a gentle soul who hardly had issues with anyone,” a resident said. “She was kind-hearted, hardworking, and always wore a smile. It is heartbreaking that her life was cut short in such a cruel manner, especially just one month after her wedding.”

The incident has renewed concerns over the security of residents, particularly those who leave their homes in the early hours of the day for work, worship, or other legitimate activities.

As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police, Agbor Division, had commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime.

Residents have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to unravel the motive behind the killing and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The tragic death of Esther Adaigbe has left her family, friends, church members, and the entire Agbor community in deep sorrow, with many praying that justice will prevail.
